All four top seeds were victorious in their respective tiers at the 2026 BC School Sports Girls Basketball Provincial Championships.

The four-day championships featured 64 teams in four tiers playing 128 games, all at Langley Events Centre, from February 25-28.

1A Tournament

A new school, but the same battle-tested core — Bella Coola’s Acwsalcta Thunder finished what they started three years ago, capturing gold.

The Thunder rode a dominant second half to a 78-62 victory over the Cedars Christian Eagles (Prince George) in Saturday afternoon’s championship final on Ken Winslade Court inside the Arena Bowl at the BC School Sports 1A Girls Basketball Provincial Tournament.

Six of Acwsalcta’s eight players competed the past two seasons in nearby Hagensborg with the Sir Alexander Mackenzie Grizzlies, earning bronze in 2024 and silver in 2025. On Saturday, they completed the climb.

It was tight early, with five ties and five lead changes in a back-and-forth opening quarter. Acwsalcta seized control in the second, taking the lead for good and carrying a seven-point edge into halftime. The Thunder stretched the margin to 16 after three quarters and closed it out from there.

Kashlyn Mack was named Player of the Game after flirting with a triple-double, finishing with 22 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Ayanna Parr added 19 points, Skylene Andy had 18, and Annika Parr chipped in four.

Cadence Hooft paced the Eagles with 19 points, while Ana Davis added 16.

In the bronze medal game, Vanderhoof’s Nechako Valley Viqueens rallied past Abbotsford’s Dasmesh Falcons 61-52. Abby Dykstra scored 15 to lead the Viqueens, while Gurjaan Mahal had 18 for the Falcons.

Silver medallists a year ago, Surrey’s Holy Cross Crusaders left no doubt this time.

The top-seeded Crusaders captured the BC School Sports 2A Girls Basketball Provincial Tournament title with a commanding 81-51 victory over the No. 3 St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights on Saturday afternoon at Langley Events Centre inside the Arena Bowl on the Ken Winslade Court.

The opening quarter was tightly contested, featuring four lead changes, before Holy Cross began to assert control. The Crusaders carried a 40-32 advantage into halftime, then took over after the break. Their defence clamped down over the final 20 minutes, limiting the Knights to just 19 second-half points to turn a competitive game into a runaway.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Solene Jackson delivered a dominant performance, pouring in 30 points while hauling down a remarkable 25 rebounds. For perspective, St. Thomas More finished with 27 total rebounds as a team. Demicah Arnaldo led the Knights with 20 points.

In the third-place game, the Credo Christian Kodiaks of the Township of Langley rolled past the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops, 94-44. Hailey Stam, Presley Kobes and Kallie Breuk each scored 22 points for the Kodiaks, while Meena Litt had 16 for Westsyde.

3A Tournament

Chloe Collins delivered a championship performance for the ages, carrying the Vernon Panthers to provincial glory.

Collins poured in 32 points — including seven three-pointers accounting for 21 of those points — and added 11 rebounds as Vernon defeated the Langley Christian Lightning 71-62 in Saturday’s 3A championship final. She earned both Most Valuable Player and Player of the Game honours for her dominant effort.

The top two seeds squared off on Ken Winslade Court inside the Arena Bowl at Langley Events Centre, and it was Collins who proved the difference in a high-level showdown.

Langley Christian countered with a balanced attack, led by Payton Brunoro’s 16 points, 14 from Sorell Lenz and 13 courtesy of Gaby Vis.

For Vernon, the title caps a steady climb. The Panthers captured bronze a year ago and were making their fifth appearance in the six-year history of the 3A Tournament. The program has also made 18 trips to the 2A Tournament — earning two silver medals at that level — but Saturday marked its first provincial championship.
