Semi-Final #1: Dover Bay Dolphins 82 St. Patrick Celtics 65

It was the Linder show on Friday night.

Joe Linder scored 28 points while older brother Frank Linder added 20 as the Nanaimo school was an 82-65 winner over the St. Patrick Celtics.

Following a tight first quarter – the Dolphins led 18-14 – Dover Bay opened a 12-point lead at the half.

Both teams were effective from long distance in the contest with the Dolphins hitting nine triples while the Celtics countered with eight.

In addition to the combined 48 points from the Linder brothers, Hudson Trood added 15 with Van Suiter chipping in 11. Riley Santa Juana led St. Patrick with 35 points while Jaiden Quan had 13.

Semi-Final #2: St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 82 Vancouver College Fighting Irish 74

The scoring depth of the St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights powered the Burnaby squad to an 82-74 in the second Super 16 semi-final on Friday night.

In the quarter-finals, the Knights needed a monster game from Zeru Abera as the Grade 12 guard scored 41 points to rally his team from 20 points down in the fourth quarter. But with Abera held to a pedestrian 10 points on Friday, that did not matter as STM had four other players reach double figures in the 82-74 victory.

Jacob Oreta and Shane Deza shared the scoring lead with 18 points apiece, while Logan Ball finished with 16 and Joey Nguyen chipped in 13.

The game was tied at the 39 at the half before the Knights pulled ahead in the third and then held the Fighting Irish at bay down the stretch as Vancouver College could get no closer than four points in the final frame.

Andres Garcia led his team with 33 points in the defeat.

In a game where points were at a premium, Vancouver’s King George Dragons used a strong third quarter to edge the Brookswood Bobcats 51-44.

The teams combined for just 13 points in the first 10 minutes (8-5 for Brookswood) and it was 22-15 at the half for the Bobcats. But the Dragons’ Faisal Shawwa had 11 in the third quarter while Charlie Comrie chipped in six with Filip Puaca and Leiroy Dinco each hitting big 3-pointers in the period. Now playing with the lead, King George iced the game from the free throw line as they made just one field in the final 10 minutes, but they hit 11 of 13 from the charity stripe.

Shawwa led his team with 22 points while Puaca had a dozen and Comrie chipped in 11. Jayden Kenyon scored 24 points for Brookswood to lead all scorers.

Semi-Final #2: Collingwood Cavaliers 101 Rick Hansen Hurricanes 62

The Rick Hansen Hurricanes held tough for the first quarter but could not match the potent offensive attack of West Vancouver’s Collingwood Cavaliers, falling 101-62. The Cavaliers were up 26-23 after 10 minutes before stretching the lead to 17 at the half and continuing their torrid pace in the third and fourth quarters.

The Cavaliers hit 11 3-pointers and were led by Sam Li’s 29 points and another 22 from Tony Li. Harjap Thind led the Hurricanes with 26 and Jeet Dhaliwal’s 19.
