Doors open at the ARENAS at Langley Events Centre
The ARENAS at Langley Events Centre are now open, providing new opportunities for ice hockey, lacrosse, ball hockey, and a wide range of community sport and recreation activities in the Township of Langley.
The ARENAS are the Township’s first new additional ice and indoor dry floor arenas built by the Township of Langley for non-profit and community use in more than 50 years. They are built to meet growing demand from non-profit user groups, who are the facility’s primary tenants.
Built with an innovative stacked-arena design, the new facility makes efficient use of its compact footprint. Two dry floor arenas are located above three ice surfaces, delivering five new arenas within one modern, purpose-built complex.
The $149 million project was completed with $24 million in funding support from the Government of British Columbia through the Growing Communities Fund.
“This facility is a game changer for ice and dry floor sports in Langley. Needed due to growth, ready for today and for the future, funded from growth revenues,” said Eric Woodward, Mayor of the Township of Langley. “For Langley Minor Hockey, Langley Girls Ice Hockey, Valley Ball Hockey, and Langley Minor Lacrosse. For youth, skaters, players, coaches and families. More capacity. Better ice times. More practice time. More options for kids across all of Langley. And now, by being able to shift programming currently at the Aldergrove Community Centre and George Preston Recreation Centre in Brookswood to this new facility, it frees up more time for other local non-profit organizations.”
The 400,000+ square foot facility includes:
a feature arena with capacity for approximately 1,500 spectators
two additional ice arenas, each with capacity for approximately 350 spectators
two dry floor arenas, each with capacity for approximately 350 spectators
underground parking for facility users, with a dedicated drop-off lane available above ground to maintain traffic flow
Combined with existing ice and dry floor arena surfaces already in place at the neighbouring Langley Events Centre at 7888 200 Street, and the FIELDHOUSE at Langley Events Centre, these facilities are uniquely positioned to host user groups, tournaments and events for years to come.
The ARENAS at Langley Events Centre will also feature licensed food and beverage services, as well as hockey-specific training opportunities. Office spaces within the building will provide space for user groups including the Langley Minor Hockey Association, the Langley Girls Ice Hockey Association, the Valley Ball Hockey Association, and the Langley Minor Lacrosse Association.
