Township of Langley, BC (Sunday, April 19, 2015) – The 2015 BC Boys and Girls High School Basketball All-Star games wrapped up tonight at the Langley Events Centre.

This year’s BC Girls All-Star game, hosted in partnership with the BC Secondary Schools Basketball Association went to Team Leduc as they defeated Team Veale 64-59. Avery Snider (Mark Isfeld) led the team with 14 points and Nicole Vander Helm (Holy Cross) also hit double digits with 11. Vander Helm was named Player of the Game for Team Leduc.

“That was a lot of fun,” said Vander Helm. “Playing with the best players in the province, it was great.”

Team Veale was led by Penielle M’Bikata (W.J. Mouat), who scored a game-high 15 points. She was also voted Player of the Game for Team Veale. Emma Johnson (Immaculata) chipped in with 10 points.

“It’s nice for the girls to have one last send-off before their high school careers come to end,” said Veale. “An emotional night but all of them deserve to be here and called an all-star.”

The Boys All-Star Game, hosted in partnership with the BC High School Boys Basketball Association featured Team Taylor against Team Roberts. Both teams showed impressive displays of athleticism, skill and finesse, however, Team Taylor came away with a 101-82 victory. Centre Mike West (Terry Fox) led all scorers with 18 points and Taylor Brown (Holy Cross) netted 16 points in the win. Brown was voted Player of the Game for Team Taylor.

“You just have to enjoy it and take it all in,” said Brown. “There’s no pressure. You can pass and not worry about getting the ball all the time because there’s so many good players that can put the ball in the hoop. It was nice to let loose and go at it.”

Team Roberts was led by 2015 BC 4A Boys Most Valuable Player Jauquin Bennett-Boire (Yale), who scored 16 points while Joshua Charles (Cowichan) finished the game with 14 points and Player of the Game honours for Team Roberts.

“It’s fun to get together and have a good game,” said Charles. “It makes the game a lot more exciting. We just wanted to come out and play hard but also have fun.”
