Mar 14, 2015
Township of Langley, BC (Saturday, March 14, 2015) – The St. Michaels University Blue Jags got their revenge capturing the 2015 BC High School Basketball Boys 2A Championships at the Langley Events Centre on Saturday night.
The number one-seed Blue Jags defeated the Delview Raiders 66-40, a year after losing in the last year’s 2A finals.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these boys,” said Head Coach Ian Hyde-Lay. “That’s a great team over there in Delview but we battled hard and our defense really stepped up.”
“Lately our defense has been great,” said forward Jason Scully, who scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. “We held them to 40 points and that’s a pretty good offensive team. That’s what we pride ourselves on.”
St. Michaels University held opponents to an impressive 36.8 points a game, best in the tournament. Blue Jags guard Graeme Hyde-Lay was named Tournament MVP. He scored 16 points in the finals.
Raiders guard Wowie Untalan led Delview with 15 points and was named a first team all-star. Rehman Soehria chipped in with 11 for the Raiders.
In 2014, St. Michaels University fell to Lambrick Park in the provincial finals at the LEC.
“I would not be too happy if we lost again in the finals,” said Scully. “It’s a great feeling to finally get a win.”
