Vancouver Teams Set to Meet in Final at 2015 TELUS Junior Boys Provincial Basketball Championships

Township of Langley, BC (Friday, February 27, 2015) – It’ll be two Vancouver schools battling it out for the 2015 TELUS Junior Boys Provincial Basketball Championships crown on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre.

In the first semi-final it featured two surprises with number 7 Killarney matched up against Walnut Grove, who came in ranked 14th. The nail-biting game came down to the final few minutes where Killarney would get some clutch baskets from guard Jason Tantengco and come away with a tight 53-50 victory over the Gators. Walnut Grove went into halftime with a 27-23 lead but were outscored 30-23 in the second half as the Langley school was unable to make some shots down the stretch.

The other semi-final saw the number one ranked Kitsilano Blue Demons square off against the 4th seeded Steveston-London Sharks. In another close first half, the Blue Demons went into the break ahead 34-33. The second half, Kitsilano showed why they’re the top seed outscoring the Sharks 35-24 including 8 points in the final frame from Game MVP Filip Sokic who finished with 21 points.

The final day of the tournament will see another full slate of games with tip-off at 8:30AM on Saturday and finish off with the Junior Boys Final at 4:00PM on South Court between #1 Kitsilano and #7 Killarney. Prior to the final, it’ll be the bronze medal game as Steveston-London takes on Walnut Grove at 2:30PM on South Court.
