Adanacs Stars Outplaying Six Nations Top Guns

Aug 18, 2014

Before the series began, a lot of the Minto Cup talk seemed to focus on which star players were going to step up and shine. So far, the big three of the Coquitlam Adanacs have outplayed the Six Nations big guns.

Wesley Berg, Eli McLaughlin and Tyler Pace have scored a combined 24 points in two games, compared to 17 points put up by Johnny Powless, Quinn Powless and Brandon Montour.

“When the three of us are playing well, no one can really stop us,” said Pace. “Wes is a perfect captain, he’s awesome to play with and Eli is one of the hardest working guys on the team.”

Six Nations came into the Minto Cup averaging eleven goals a game in the playoffs. The Arrows leading scorer this postseason, Johnny Powless was held to a playoff low three points on Sunday.

“He’s a key focal point,” said Adanacs head coach Neil Doddridge. “Johnny’s a sharpshooter, one of the best and containing him has been a team effort so far.”

Along with handing the Arrows back-to-back losses for the first time all season, Coquitlam has also held the Arrows to a playoff low six goals in each of the two games, something no other team in the playoffs has done this year.

“We’re getting our chances but their goalie keeps kicking balls away,” said Arrows head coach Marshall Abrams. “We definitely have to figure him out and start burying our chances, because we’re getting them,” stated Abrams. “They’re getting their shots within six feet of the net and capitalizing on them.”

Game 3 of the Minto Cup resumes Tuesday at 8:00PM at the Langley Events Centre.

Coquitlam leads the best-of-seven series 2-0.

Tickets are available at or at the LEC Box Office, which opens at 5:00PM on game days.
