NORCECA's Men's Volleyball Continental Championship Receives Funding
Apr 15, 2013
Two levels of government have come together to provide financial support to the upcoming 2013 NORCECA Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship (happening September 23 to 30 at the Langley Events Centre). The Provincial government will provide $50,000 to assist with funding some of the essential costs associated with hosting an international event of this magnitude. This funding joins the strong support of the host municipality and facility, the Township of Langley and the Langley Events Centre, to provide a solid financial structure for the championship. The event will feature the top men’s National volleyball teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean, including the Canadian Men’s National team.
The LEC is partnering with Volleyball BC and Volleyball Canada to host the event, the largest international volleyball event to come to British Columbia in over two decades,
“We look forward to hosting the 2013 NORCECA Men's Continental Championship in Langley, BC this September,” stated Volleyball Canada Executive Director, Mark Eckert. “With the support and partnerships in place from the Langley Events Centre, Volleyball BC, and now from the Province of BC, we are confident in the organizational capacity to deliver a successful event at this international level. We trust we'll see great crowds coming from throughout BC and Canada to witness the highest level of volleyball in the world, and of course to cheer on our national team as they vie to become champions of our continental zone and qualify for the Grand Champions Cup later that fall.”
MLA Rich Coleman from Fort-Langley Aldergrove noted the importance of events like this in the community,
“Sports provide exercise, teach teamwork and build good citizens. To the Canadian team members, good luck at the 2013 NORCECA Continental Volleyball Championships Tournament.”
Mary Polak, MLA for Langley also voiced her enthusiasm for the upcoming Championship taking place in the Township of Langley,
“Langley’s facilities and expertise have made our community a sport tourism destination,” said Polak. “Our funding support for the NORCECA Championships brings another high calibre event to the Langley Events Centre giving international profile to BC and to Langley.”
The Championship will be the second significant volleyball event to be hosted in the Township of Langley in the past twelve months as the 2012 U-23 Men’s Volleyball Pan Am Cup took place at the LEC in September, 2012, proving the venue’s ability to host the larger event featuring the senior men’s team,
“The Township of Langley is honoured and excited to be hosting the 2013 NORCECA Men’s Continental Volleyball Championship and we are grateful for the funding provided by the Province of BC,” said Township of Langley Mayor Jack Froese. “This is the largest international tournament ever to be held in BC, and the Langley Events Centre is the perfect venue for an event of this calibre. The generous contribution from the Ministry of Community, Sport, and Cultural Development – along with the hard work of everyone involved in the tournament and the enthusiasm our community’s sports fans – promises to make this an exceptional event.”
Tickets for the event will go on sale later this spring and will feature the opportunity for fans to see some of the best athletes in the world. Stay tuned for more information, including the launch of the event website later in April.
