Apr 18, 2012

Team Canada’s Senior Women’s National Basketball Team is coming to the Langley Events Centre. Canada Basketball announced an exhibition series that will take place around the Lower Mainland in May with the opening game taking place in the LEC Gymnasium on May 16 at 7:00pm against the Chinese Senior Women’s National Team (SWNT).

The game will serve as a warm up for Team Canada as they prepare to head to the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women in Turkey, June 25 to July 1 where they will be competing for one of the final five berths into the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games. China’s team has already qualified having won the 2011 FIBA Asia Championships. Canada’s current ranking is 11th in the world while China sits at 7th.

The event will be co-hosted with Basketball BC, whose offices are in the Langley Events Centre, and will be the first International basketball game to be held in the LEC Gymnasium, providing the community a first glance at the upcoming Olympic competition.
