(Township of Langley – August 17, 2014) – The Six Nations Arrows will have a chance to get back on track in Game 2 of the Minto Cup tonight at the Langley Events Centre.
The Arrows are coming off a tough 7-6 defeat to the Coquitlam Adanacs Saturday night in the series opener.
A crowd of 13-hundred watched as Six Nations outshot the Adanacs and controlled most of the play in game one, but were unable to come away with a victory.
“There was a lot of fan support for both teams last night”, said Arrows head coach Marshall Abrams. “As the series keeps going, there will be more and more, but there was a lot good energy and the guys loved it”.
After forty minutes, Six Nations led 6-4 and looked in command. However, the third period was their downfall, as they were held off the score sheet in the final frame.
“Their goalie was the difference last night”, said Abrams. He spoiled a lot of our chances, but we’ll make our adjustments and be better”.
Pete Dubenski stopped 43 of 49 shots he faced, including some point blank chances from the Arrows late in the game.
“Game 2 is a must win game for us”, said Abrams. “We’ll be playing desperate tonight and try and make it a best of five series”.
Coquitlam played an almost flawless third period, shutting down a high powered Six Nations offense, while scoring three timely goals, two from Eli McLaughlin and the eventual game winner from captain Wesley Berg.
“Big players raise their games at big times”, said Adanacs head coach Neil Doddridge. “Wes and Eli stepped it up and along with some excellent goaltending from Pete (Dubenski) was the difference”.
“Their transition game caught us a bit off guard”, added Doddridge. “They’re very crafty on offense, their picks are methodical and they pass the ball very well”.
Coquitlam leads the best-of-seven series 1-0. Game 2 of the Minto Cup is Sunday at 8PM at the Langley Events Centre. Roster introductions start at 7:45PM.
